How does it work?

We use a system called Carrier Pre-Select (CPS) to route your outgoing calls over an alternative network to BT, giving you access to competitive call rates and a wide range of services, with no compromise in service.

In simple terms the Carrier Pre-Select (CPS) option allows you to keep your existing line, line rental is still paid to BT but we will manage your call costs, which will show a significant reduction to that of BT’s costs.

Benefits

  • Reduced Call Costs - Low Call Rates for UK, Mobile and International Calls
  • Easy to Switch - Seamless changeover meaning no down time or loss of service
  • No Hardware Required – Carrier Pre Selection eliminates the need for any kind of hardware.

Technical Information

Carrier Pre-Selection (CPS) routes customer calls onto a different network without the need for prefixing calls with a 1XXX number. Under CPS the local BT Exchange is programmed to automatically recognise that calls from a particular line need to be routed via a specific supplier. Three types of CPS can be implemented. All Calls, where all calls are routed using the supplier, International Calls, where only international calls are routed by the supplier and National Calls, where only national calls are routed by the supplier. In the case of National and International calls only, all other calls are routed via BT.

Carrier Pre Selection routes calls automatically when BT have programmed their local exchange, however this can be overridden by the customer if required. This is done by simply prefixing calls with a 1XXX as in LCR. Applying a prefix always overrides any Carrier Pre Selection programming at the Local Exchange. This allows customers to retain the freedom to route different calls through alternative suppliers. For example to route calls back onto BT, calls must be prefixed with 1280. A key issue in the implementation of Carrier Pre Selection is that a customer’s calls are not necessarily automatically routed by Vodafone’s supplier. Customers who have previously employed LCR solutions using either diallers or who have programmed their telephone system with a 1XXX prefix will continue to override CPS until this service is cancelled. In such cases, Vodafone must organise for the system to be deprogrammed via either the customer’s system maintainer or an external Vodafone recommended maintainer.
